Three Phase Traction Motor


Audit of following Work Instructions was done in TM Shop. Report is as follows:-

Assembly of short circuit cage( W 21.404):-
Points noticed:-
  • Initial insertion of 4 copper bars as mentioned in Para 3.5 of this WI is to be followed in induction brazed rotors as evident from above snap.

  • Press punching as mentioned in para 3.10 of this WI should be followed in practice.
  • Steel tape binding as mentioned in para 3.15 of this WI should be  done.
  • There are two types of rotors being manufactured:- MIG welded and Induction brazed. There is no WI issued for the latter.
  • Knowledge of this WI is OK among the staff.


CEE during his inspection of TM shop today asked about BRC shed buffer height case. He was informed about the NC raised by inspection wing.

How Locomotives are assembled?


Audit of following 3 Work Instructions was done in Shop # 19. Report is as follows:-

Calibration of Pantograph ( W 19.018):-
Observations:-

  • Calibration being done in test shed on AM-12 was observed . Practical method being adopted by using a kind of jig is entirely different from the one given in WI.

  • WI should be modified accordingly.

  • Measurement of Panto lock down force of 17 kg as mentioned in para 3.8 of this WI is to be ensured.





Oxy fuel welding of pipes ( W 19.019):-
Observations:-
  • This WI has become obsolete since pipes these days come with bellows.



Transformer oil filtration ( W 19.020):-
Observations:-
  • This WI has not been revised since 1996, as new types of filtration plants have come after that.

  • Floor are near oil-filtration plant was found very dirty and slippery, same attended.









Bushing fitment in locomotive


Audit of following 2 Work Instructions was done in Shop # 19. Report is as follows:-

Fitment of condenser type main bush ( W 19.021):-
Observations:-
  • Use of dummy condensor bushing as mentioned in para 3.3 to para 3.7 of this WI is  difficult practically.

  • These days gel filled bushing are in use for 3-phase locomotives, Hence the WI mentioning use of oil in para 3.12 and 3.13  needs modification.

Fitment of condenser type main bush ( W 19.021):-
Observations:-
  • Flange bolts being used on the roof of LPS make looked rusty, same attended.




  • This WI is incomplete and needs to be re-issued as it does not mention the adhesive tape used in the process of fitment.

CLW Assembly of Locomotive


 Audit of following  Work Instructions was done in Shop # 19. Report is as follows:-

Mounting of SL, MVSL, QVSL ( W 19.023):-
Observations:-
  • Marking of 20 nos holes as mentioned in para 3.1.1 of this WI seems to have become outdated. In practice 12 holes and 4 spigot holes are being done. This WI needs modification.

  • Jig for marking holes is due for calibration got attended.

  • Jig for mrking MVSL is due for calibration got attended.

  • Location of heat-shrinkable sleev as mentioned in para 3.3.4 of this WI was explained to staff.


  • Source of supply of hylem sheet for QVSL mounting could not be idenetified in the shop same done in office.



Loco Assembly in CLW


Audit of following 2 Work Instructions was done today in Shop # 19. Report is as follows:-

Mounting of Battery and connections ( W 19.024):-
Problems rectified on the spot:-
  • In the loco inspected in test shed, some of the batteries having deficient water indicator float were attended.


  • All the battery terminals found to be sulphated got attended.



  • Main cable ( B006) was of smaller size than the battery connector  cable. Attending this anomaly can reduce the cost.


Mounting of Battery and connections ( W 19.033):-




Observations:-
  • In the batteries of M/S Emco make, electrolyte has to be filled up. This work is prone to dust ingress in the shop.

  • In the batteries of M/S HBLmake, hygrometer probe is not usable.
